LAS VEGAS – January 17, 2017 – Western Star will highlight its breadth of rugged vocational options at the 2017 World of Concrete (Jan. 17-19, 2017, Las Vegas). There, attendees can get behind the wheel to experience the Western Star difference in the seventh annual “Western Star Trucks Get Tough Challenge”.

The ride-and-drive event, which takes place in the Gold Lot at the Las Vegas Convention Center, takes contestants along a short course in their choice of a Western Star truck and scores them on a 50-point scale. All entrants receive Western Star prizes.

“This challenge provides drivers with a unique test of the performance and versatility available throughout the Western Star vocational line-up,” said Ann Demitruk, vice president of marketing for Western Star. “Last year we had more than 200 drivers compete, and this year we’re expecting even more. Come to the Get Tough Challenge and experience what Western Star is all about.”

In addition to the Get Tough Challenge, Western Star will also display its vocational trucks and product options in the Gold Lot, including:

  • A 4700SB 4,500-gallon water truck equipped with a Detroit DD13® engine and Allison 4500 Rugged Duty Series (RDS) transmission
  • A 4700SF ConTech mixer with a Detroit DD13 engine and Allison 4700 RDS transmission
  • A 4900SF dump truck with a Detroit DD15® engine and Allison 4700 RDS transmission
  • The MBT-40 truck, which is based on a 6900XD chassis spec’d with the Western Star XD (Extreme Duty) Offroad package

Noted Demitruk: “Western Star is excited about the market acceptance of our 4700 and 4900 truck models by construction and mixer companies. Western Star was the only Class 8 truck manufacturer in North America to sell more trucks in 2016 than in 2015. This is a clear indication of that acceptance, and we are looking forward to customers test-driving our trucks at World of Concrete.”

To compete in the “Western Star Trucks Get Tough Challenge” participants must have a current CDL, and can register at the Gold Lot. Event hours are 9:30 am to 5:00 pm on Jan. 17 through Jan. 19, 2017.
